This Small Company Is Keeping Plastic Out of Our Oceans

According to a recent report from the World Economic Forum, there will be more plastic than fish in the world’s oceans by 2050. In 2008, a small group of surfers came together to counter the plastic pollution along one of Mexico’s hidden surf paradises, the Guerrero coast. They founded the Azulita Project, a company that purchases plastic waste from local residents. Follow along in this film from Q Media as they then clean, process, and compress the plastic, which is ultimately shipped and sold to a recycling facility near Guadalajara, Mexico. Through this process, the project now collects between 12-16 tons of plastic per month, proving that a small community can make a difference. You can follow their work on Facebook.
